NAME

hardware-connected - indicates whether given hardware is connected

SYNOPSIS

hardware-connected [-hv] [-m MODNAME | MODALIAS_PATTERN ...]

DESCRIPTION

hardware-connected indicates whether given hardware exists in the system via its return code.

The tool matches modalias patterns passed as command line parameters or on standard input against /sys/devices/**/modalias (using the fnmatch function). When using the verbose mode, it also prints the matching modaliases on standard output.

Alternatively, it can query /sbin/modinfo for the modalias patterns of a kernel module.

OPTIONS

-h

Show usage.

-v

Be verbose: print matching modaliases on standard output.

-m MODNAME

Query the modalias patterns from the module MODNAME using modinfo.

EXAMPLES

hardware-connected -m 8139too && echo yes

Prints "yes" if an RTL-8139 ethernet interface is connected to the computer.

hardware-connected -v 'pci:*bc03sc00*'

Prints the modalias of each VGA adapter connected to the PCI bus.
